3 sausages on white bread with tomato sauce, a coopers pale ale, smarties and 3 lamingtons at the australia week cricket match in bear creek park [tim tams not consumed]... there may have been a hangover involved [we bumped out last night]...

'spider-bull' [sing with me... spider-bull, spider-bull, does whatever a spider-bull wants...] which I found in someone's front yard in a ritzy suburb?!

a day off. the show went really well so we thought we'd treat ourselves (again) and go to an Australia day cricket match. Australia vs England. the english got beaten but there were sausages, tim tams and lamingtons to make them feel a bit better. it was super fun. this is one of the english outfielders who clapped himself everytime he 'stopped' a ball (rather than catching it).

The city was very quiet today, so mark and I went for a walk through the theatre district, having lunch at the Spaghetti House. We found this piece of history along the Bayou River, which as you know is not the first time we have come across the No-tsu-oh name...

... and around the corner is the Notsuoh bar [under Clarks] which we've been frequenting a touch! The rooftop is exactly like the Baz and Catherine La Boheme set, right down to the cursive painted sign...

I woke up feeling pretty average this morning so I thought an adventure might make things better. 
but like most big cities, this city isn't one to easily find comfort or beauty. there are so few cities that are designed to inspire - particularly if you want to walk. which is strange because the architects of Houston, like so many cities in Australia, had choices available to them that architects in older cities didn't.

so I resorted to starbucks and sitting in a generic window seat that could have been in Paris or Melbourne, I remembered how lucky I am to make art and to work with great people. I've always wanted to be in a strange city, touring a work of art I love. and that's what I'm doing.

everyone struggles. everyone has good and bad days.

our joy at finding good coffee (it was even in an 8oz size - thanks to Max at Catalina Coffee)....

our favourite bar is Notsuoh and the owner Jim, also owns the three levels above this bar. He showed me around last night and this is a wall of woman's shoes that have been there for decades.

he found a gorgeous pair that fitted  and gave them to me for an opening night present. so sweet!

I found this little one on the way to work.
after two dress runs, jet-lag, a hangover, a yoga class, my very old  body feels similar. it's tough but i'm loving it!

we've been trying to find a decent coffee in this city...mark and i have been testing different breakfast places. this is the latest: a high-end hotel with some beautiful light fixtures made of square panels of tinted mother-of-pearl.

alas it seems that starbrucks stills makes the best coffee. how sad is that?  and how hard can a good breakfast be to find in a city with 5 million people?
